ALBANY, GA --
The Albany Fire Department responded to a fire on the 2400 block of Leonard Ave Thursday morning.

At around 8:40 a.m. Thursday morning, two reports - a walk-in and a 911 call - were made saying there was a structure fire.

The fire department arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and four to five foot high flames coming out of the front window.

"Nobody was found inside, knocked down the fire within a couple of minutes, had the fire under control. Right now the fire is under investigation," said Battalion Chief Keith Ambrose.

The house had been vacant for an unknown period of time but officials believe squatters are likely the cause of the fire. The fire resulted in over 50% of the house being damaged.
