ALBANY, GA --

When Steve Rainey saw an opportunity to draw positive attention to the Flint River, he took it. Using Albany RiverQuarium canoes, Rainy organized Paddle the Flint.

There are two different options for the trips that start in April and run through November.

Paddle the Flint, is held on Saturdays and last anywhere from 6-8 hours. It's open to anyone age 10 and up.

For the 21 and over crowd there's the Thursday Twilight Paddle, which is a 45 minute trip followed by a cocktail hour. Both trips cost 45 dollars per canoe.

No experience is necessary, as they provide you with basic canoeing instruction.

The paddle is done at a leisurely pace, which organizer Steve Rainey says allows people the opportunity to take in the scenery, “What we like to say is it's not an endurance test and it's not a race. So we don't get in a hurry, we stop a lot of times and look at animals and wildlife, the ecosystem and plants.”
