ALBANY,GA --
The veterans at American Legion Post 30 were up bright and early Monday morning.

They honored their fallen brethren with the playing of taps and lowering the American flag to half-staff.

American Legion Commander Ray Humphrey says it's sometimes difficult to connect the younger generation to the real meaning of Memorial Day since most of what they know of war has been seen on television.

“They haven't been in actual combat, even the new military we have, we do have a lot of them that are in ground combat but the majority of them are behind the lines, actually flying aircraft with remote controls,” says Humphrey.

He says it's important to honor those lost in combat fighting for our freedom, not just today but every day.
