TIFT COUNTY, GA --
A prior candidate for the office of Tift County Commission Chairman is throwing his hat in the ring for another chance at victory this election cycle.

According to a press release issued by Stephen “Tex” Mullis campaign, he is announcing his candidacy for Tift County Commission Chairman. The release also says Mullis has been contemplating another run for the commission and at the urging of many local people, prayerful consideration, and discussions with family he has decided to contest the long held seat in the July 31 Republican primary.

“The response has been overwhelmingly positive to this decision.” said Stephen. “It seems that a lot of people want a fresh voice in their county’s leadership” he stated in the release. “I think this is one of the greatest communities in this state, and I want to be a new voice that helps lead us forward past these turbulent times” said Stephen. “I was born and raised in Tifton, educated in Tifton; I am raising my young family in Tifton. The only time I have spent away from here was serving in the US Army during the first gulf war. I have a vested interest in making sure we continue to make this a great place for families to live and business to grow.”

In the release, Mullis states his focus will be on taxes, safety, and government efficiency stating that he "will not support any tax increase on our local property owners. Local property owners are already paying an average of about $400 monthly just on property tax and this is on top of all the sales taxes we load on locally.  We have to focus on limiting this burden. We can keep this a safe, vibrant community without raising taxes.”
