ALBANY, GA --
The Marine Corps Logistics Base held a small ceremony this afternoon to turn over a retired service dog to his adoptive owner.

Kastor, an 11-year-old German shepherd, served on the base since June 2004 and completed a 6-month deployment to Iraq in 2005.

The honorable pooch will fit in well with his new owners, a couple who has both served themselves and understand how he is a special dog.

"It's more of an honor. My husband and I have both served, he's served. Just more of a marine corps family," said Monique Tabbert, the adopter who accepted Kastor during the ceremony.

Tabbert's husband, Sergeant Dennis Evangelista, is currently deployed but is looking forward to bonding with Kastor when he returns.
