ALBANY, GA --
A local golf organization appears to be dissolving. Due to lack of funding, First Tee of Albany, Inc. is closing its doors.

Dougherty County trucks were hauling away furniture and equipment from inside to store for safe keeping--the back shed has already been broken into.

It takes $150,000 a year to run First Tee, and local business support had been dwindling and they received no funding from the national organization.

County Administrator Richard Crowdis says after 90 days, the inventory will be declared surplus and will be auctioned off on the website Govdeals.com. The money gleaned from those sales will then go back into SPLOST 4.

But Board President Jim Rusin says it's really the kids who are missing out on the program, that not only teaches golf, but life lessons as well.

“Some of the kids come in our program that, they don't get much at home. They don't hear about honesty and integrity and the things we talk about,” says Rusin.

There is talk in the future of partnering with the Albany YMCA, like First Tees in other cities.
