ALBANY, GA --
The Dougherty County School System held its annual celebration for school volunteers today.

89 volunteers were recognized for helping out the school system for more than 100 hours during the 2011-2012 school year.

Volunteers did everything  from tutoring, working in gyms, libraries, mentoring and more.

Staff say its important to take time to recognize those who invest their personal time in the system.

Tameeka Daniels says "most volunteers that I encounter have a heart for our students here in Dougherty County. So, that's really what it's all about, compassion for the children and wanting to give back to them in any way that they possibly can."

If you would like to volunteer, log onto their website at  www.http://www.dougherty.k12.ga.us/ to find out more.
