State government officials are mandated to vote on issues during an open session and not in executive session

ALBANY, GA --
Changes to the so-called "Sunshine Law" that were approved Tuesday in the House Judiciary Committee make government actions in meetings more transparent.
The change mandates that all government officials vote on issues in public as opposed to in executive sessions where media cameras and the public are not allowed.
The bill goes to the House next for approval.
Fines for voting in executive session have gone up to $1,000 and $2,500 for repeat offenses--all in an effort to keep leaders accountable for their actions.
