ALBANY, GA. --
Another Albany native is making music history.

Songwriter and artist Dallas Davidson has taken the title of 2012 ‘Songwriter of the Year’.

Davidson is the first artist ever to take home the award for the Academy of Country Music.

He’s penned songs for Lady antebellum, Luke Bryan, and Justin Moore.

Some of his most well-known songs are 'Country girl shake it for me,' 'We owned the night,’ and 'If heaven wasn't so far away.'

While on his way home to celebrate this achievement, Davidson took time out to talk with FOX 31 News about his win.

“It feels great! I tell you when I found out that we were nominated, it was five of us nominated and I was excited enough to sit there and know that I actually won. It's mindboggling and I’m super excited about it,” says Dallas Davidson, 2012 ACM Songwriter of the Year.

Last year Davidson had 11 hits on the music charts.
