ALBANY, GA --
There was a big turnout for the turtle race at Saturday’s Mardi Gras themed street festival at the water steps of the Flint RiverQuarium downtown, just one block over from the festival.

The race, which was at 4:00 p.m., included three heats and a final race.

Up for grabs was free gas for a year, a Hobie Lanai kayak, a scuba certification class, and a doggie spa weekend.

But the big first place prize was $5,000 cash--and that went to Jeanette Mitchell.

It was only $5 to "adopt" a turtle and all the money benefits educational programs at the RiverQuarium.
