Learn more about DCSS participation in ‘Read Across America’
Elementary classrooms across Dougherty County School System participated in the ‘Read Across America’ programs.
The program honors Dr. Seuss, the man who created the famous book series filled with rhymes. Schools hosted parents, community volunteers, and special guests as they read to students. Fox 31 saw everything from Marines to Albany Panther football players to DCSS Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree participating in the events.
Students we spoke with say they enjoyed the event because it’s fun and different compared to what they normally do in class. Live Oak Elementary School Media Specialist Jan Lloyd says there is also another reason the faculty wanted to participate. “In today’s world there is so much technology and the kids are into technology. We just wanted to remind them of reading. So community helpers can come in and remind them of that” says Lloyd.
