ALBANY, GA -- Members of the African Methodist Episcopal Church gathered for Opening Worship at the Albany Civic Center for the 100th session of the South Georgia Conference.
The host church in Albany is Bethel AME. The majority of the events will be held on the church grounds for the entire conference.
"It's a land mark celebration because it’s our Centennial; so were excited that the AME church has been alive and well in South Georgia for now a 100 years."
The church is expected to have sixty participating churches with an expected attendance of five hundred people.
In the past, the church has made an impact in the areas of housing employment, food donation and shelter.
"We’ll talk about some of the issues that are facing not only the church but society as a whole right now because as a church we see a lot of those people who are affected by things that happen in society," said Rev. Ernest Davis Jr. of Bethel AME Church.
There will be a combination of business sessions and worships services.
Everything from poverty, higher education, and the economy are expected to be discussed in the business sessions.
It will all come to a close on Westover Boulevard Thursday evening at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
