ALBANY, GA --
The Albany Police Department and Georgia State Patrol joined together Thursday to conduct a car seat safety check at the East Albany Wal-Mart from 1 to 5 PM.

Many drivers at a safety seat check did not have their child’s restraint seat properly installed, according to police. The officers proceeded to help parents properly install the seats and fasten their children in them.

They say the parents were shocked at their mistakes and grateful for the education.

"Some of the citizens had child restraints that were expired, some that were not properly installed as far as the looseness of the restraint," says Cpl. Bryant Leverett with the Albany Police Department.

If a child restraint needed replaced, officers provided a new one for the parents. APD says the Albany Kiwanis Club donated the money for the new seats.
