ALBANY, GA. -- After a relatively mild start to the flu season, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) officials say it’s not over just yet.

The number of people testing positive for the virus is on the rise and now health care professionals are warning people to get vaccinated.

The northwest and central area of the U.S. are seeing the largest increases in flu cases, but in southwest Georgia numbers are still low.

Georgia healthcare professionals say there's been somewhat of a jump in the last couple of weeks but overall this flu season has been mild.

“I've been looking at the numbers and last year our numbers were really high they were about 2.5 times more than what we're seeing now,” said Southwest Georgia District Epidemiologist Jacqueline Jenkins.

She says flu seasons can vary from year to year.
