ALBANY, GA -- The Albany Engineering Department has received many complaints about the lights along Westover Boulevard.

Taxpayers say they're too close together and the energy bills will be enormous.

However, Engineering Director Bruce Maples says if they were spaced farther apart, driver's eyes would have to constantly re-adjust from dark to light.

"And all the guidelines tell you that's worse for a driver to have your eyes adjusting from light to dark as opposed to either being well lit or totally dark," says Maples.

The Westover light project began in March 2011.
