ALBANY, GA -- In light of the recent death of Joe Paterno, you wanted to know what the warning signs are of lung cancer in today's Facebook story of the day.

Symptoms of lung cancer can include coughing and wheezing.

If you're a smoker, you may develop a new, more common and severe cough.

Coughing up blood or swelling of the neck and face may also develop.

Folks with the American Cancer Society place an emphasis on quitting smoking before symptoms get out of hand.

“Lung cancer is the number one cause of death in men and women so it's very important to quit smoking as well as use smokeless tobacco,” says Chealsea Cromer with the American Cancer Society.

Lung cancer can also spread to the spine or bones and even the brain, so it's important to get checked out soon if you feel you are displaying these symptoms.
