Southwest Georgia plagued by diabetes.

ALBANY, GA. -- Health care officials say although cases of diabetes seems to be stagnate, there is no sign of a decline.
Southwest Georgia medical professionals say the area is facing high diabetes rates, which often lead to other complications like high blood pressure and even blindness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports more than one-third of adults and 17 percent of children were obese in 2009-2010.
They estimate that one in three children born today are expected to be diabetic by 2050.
“Children that are obese now are heading to diabetes down the road. As they get older those complications are going to hit them,” said Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Diabetes Educator Phyllis Vititoe.
She says healthy eating and exercise is one way to offset diabetes.
