ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook Story of the Day, viewers wanted to know if it would be a good idea for Georgia to make its presidential primary earlier.

In September, Florida voted to hold their presidential primary on Jan. 31. The Republican National Committee (RNC) rules say no other state other than four “carve-out” states - Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina - can hold a primary before March 6, also known as Super Tuesday. States ignoring the RNC rules could lose half of their delegates.

Albany State University Political Science Professor Dr. Kwame Dankwa says many states want their primaries to be earlier because they want to be "important."

"Everybody knows Iowa; everybody knows New Hampshire. Why? Because they are the first states for the caucus and primary," says Dankwa. "States don't want to wait until the primaries are over when they have no impact, so the whole idea of rushing to have your primaries early is to make you important in deciding who the winner is going to be."

He also says it's about money for the states.

"This time the TV networks are all a buzz in the states where the primaries are being held. If you wait too late and the winner is known ... no money is going to be spent on commercials in the state because the decision is already known," says Dankwa.

Dankwa says he predicts GOP Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich – who hails from the Peach State – will win Georgia's primary election.
