ALBANY, GA -- Updated 1/3/12 4:28 p.m.

A 76-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence after he side-swiped a car as he was attempting to get onto the bypass Tuesday afternoon.

Frank Twitty Junior from Camilla was driving a Toyota Avalon and trying to turn left onto the entrance ramp of the Liberty Expressway at Clark Avenue.

As Twitty was turning, he crossed over the concrete median, hitting a silver Volvo as it was on the exit ramp.

The driver of the Volvo fled the scene because he is an unlicensed driver and charges are pending for him.

Twitty was charged with DUI, improper left turn and failure to maintain lane.

An afternoon wreck causes traffic issues near the Clark Avenue and Liberty Expressway.

According to an Albany Police Department officer, an elderly man was driving westbound on Clark Avenue and began to enter the ramp onto the Liberty Expressway. The driver crossed over into the exit lane median, into oncoming traffic and sideswiped another car.

The Albany Police Department responded and placed the impaired man into custody. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
