ALBANY, GA -- From a press release issued by Albany Technical College:

Beginning in January for the spring semester, Albany Tech students who need housing will be able to obtain residence at Albany State’s Wiley or Gibson Halls. In addition to housing, students will also be able to take
advantage of a meal plan on ASU’s campus. This agreement marks the first of its kind between a Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and a University System of Georgia (USG) institution. Albany Tech and Albany State already have several articulation agreements in place, so this agreement is another win-win for both institutions. In addition, ASU provides public safety on the ATC campus and all men and women’s basketball home games for ATC are played at ASU’s HPER Complex.

“This is a historic opportunity to expand a great relationship,” said Dr. Anthony Parker, President of Albany Technical College. Since starting its men’s and women’s basketball teams, Albany Tech has had a need to provide reasonable housing for student athletes, many of whom come from other states. This agreement allows Albany Tech’s student athletes to have safe, affordable housing in a collegiate atmosphere.

“ASU has had dormitory space that was not being utilized. This allows ATC students from outside of the community to have a safe place to live while they earn their associate’s degree,” said Parker. Albany State University President Everette J. Freeman said, “This agreement extends the enormously productive relationship with ATC to strengthen the opportunities for ATC students, especially talented athletes, to remain in Albany to complete their undergraduate education and compete athletically.
