ALBANY, GA -- The newspaper industry was one that was hit hard during the recession. Many papers have had to go through rapid evolution.

Albany Herald publisher Mike Gebhart talked to the Rotary club Tuesday about leadership, especially in surviving the last couple of years.

With loses in advertising and subscriptions, one of the biggest changes has come by using the web.

“It's critically, because it's primarily the source of breaking news. There is no such thing as a 24 hour news cycle. News is as it happens. The web allows you that instantaneous response with breaking news so it is very important,” said Gebhart.

The Albany Herald is a media partner with Fox 31.
