ALBANY, GA -- Dougherty County commissioners discussed the possibility of mandated parenting classes for those incarcerated in Dougherty County.

Commissioner Gloria Gaines brought up the issue with state representatives as a way to help solve cases of poor parenting.

However, Representative Ed Rynders feels it is best left as a local issue instead of a government issue.

“If someone's got a concern like they said today in Dougherty County about parenting, I suggest you engage the churches and other civic organizations instead of always looking at the state and federal government to be a money source to those kinds of problems,” says Rynders.

Representative Carol Fullerton spoke with commissioner Gains after the meeting about ways to get the community involved.
