The Dougherty County Sheriff's Department received a generous donation Tuesday from the Southwest Georgia Exchange Club.

The $1,000 check will go towards their "shop with the sheriff" event they hold each year that allows less fortunate children to go shopping for Christmas gifts.

“So many of these children spent most of their money for their friends and family, they didn't spend it on themselves and that's what Christmas is all about,” says C. B. Fincher, who was in charge of raising the funds.

The Exchange Club has been donating to the sheriff's department for at least the past 10 years.
