ALBANY, GA -- Water Gas and Light bills will likely be going up next year.

Officials said at Thursday’s board meeting that they've seen a massive increase in energy costs from MEAG, up about 16 million dollars over the past two years.

For customers that means energy bills will have to go up, for the average customer, about 12 dollars a month.

“We are going to absorb these costs through July first which is through this fiscal year, but beginning next fiscal year we are going to have look at an increase and it's going to have to be in the neighborhood of about 10 percent,” said WG&L Finance Executive John Vansant.

The meeting was also the last for Mayor Willie Adams who serves as board chairman. His term ends when he leaves the mayor's office.
