ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia license plates soon may all read "In God We Trust" and parents who apply for federal financial assistance might have to take drug tests under proposed legislation filed by state lawmakers.

The two measures were among the bills that were filed Tuesday, the first day state lawmakers could submit proposals for the upcoming legislative session in January.

The drug-test requirement would apply to anyone seeking money from the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. The license plate bill comes after the state had to re-do a public contest in the spring because "In God We Trust" appeared on possible designs without making it clear the motto was a sticker and not a permanent.

The legislative session begins Jan. 9.
