ALBANY, GA -- November 17 marks the 50th anniversary of a group of leaders of black organizations getting together to officially form the Albany Civil Rights Movement.

The Civil Rights Institute is planning week-long events.

Dr. William G. Anderson will be in town for the anniversary next Thursday--he was elected the president of the movement on November 17, 1961.

“To reflect on that momentous occasion and reflect on what the Albany movement was able to achieve and also what's happened in the last 50 years,” says Civil Rights Institute Director Lee Formwalt.

The celebration begins Saturday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. with Hasla Diner speaking about Jews and the Civil Rights Movement.
