ALBANY, GA -- Dougherty County commissioners were presented with last year's Farm Gate survey at Monday's County Commission meeting.

The survey puts a value on our farm commodities in Dougherty County like our pecans, cotton and peanuts.

The economic impact last year was $62 million to Dougherty County and most of that came from our pecan industry.

“China has gotten into the pecan business. And places like Texas and Louisiana, they weren't able this year to produce as many pecans due to the drought conditions out there,” says Dougherty County Extension Director James Morgan.

Pecans are selling now for up to $3.50 a pound--that's up about a dollar and a half from a year ago.
