Students from the culinary arts class at Westover High School carved some special pumpkins for some special kids.

Children at the pediatric unit of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital received the hand-carved Halloween pumpkins. From ghosts to vampires, castles to cats, kids had a smile on their face because of the holiday treat. Pediatric patients also received homemade cookies.

“It was humbling; it made you think about things. It was a good experience,” says W.H.S. Senior Timothy Barley. “I learned that life is precious that you need to take care of it because things can happen.”

The project was a part of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) program.

The pumpkins were donated by Mark’s Melon Patch.
