ALBANY, GA -- Citizens were invited out to Albany State University Thursday to get a lesson on redistricting.

City officials talked about the new tentative maps that were drawn up for the wards of Albany.

So far they have two potential plans for maps that could get voted on by the city commission, but first they wanted input from voters.

“We are taking comments. This is part of our process. We will be required to submit both the process and the maps to the department of justice and we want to be able to show that we have given people an opportunity to participate,” said Assistant City Manager Wes Smith.

The maps won't be voted on the commission until the beginning of the year, once the new mayor and any new commissioners are sworn in.
