ALBANY, GA -- Their name and their motto is Together Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M.), and Saturday they put together a true team effort at Carver Park.
“We're giving out food, clothing, hot food and bags of food as well,” said Retha Daniels of T.E.A.M.
The church-based organization held their annual Community Outreach Day.
“We just love people and how best to build our community then to give them what they need,” said Daniels.
“It's the community helping people who are less fortunate so I am glad to come out here and get me some clothes, brand new hats,” said Jamie Lee Lewis who came out for the event.
And some of volunteers on this T.E.A.M. came from other teams. Members of Albany State's basketball team brought the muscle packing free groceries to peoples' cars.
“It feels good. It feels good to help people out,” said senior guard Stephen Francis
During the holiday months there are a lot of events where people can come out and get free food, but not so many where they can come out and get free healthcare. That's why this blood pressure station was one of the most popular events in the park
“Most people do not like going to the doctor. We have had plenty of cases where someone will come in and we have had to send them straight to the hospital, because their blood pressure was extremely high,” said Daniels.
In addition to the blood pressure, the Red Cross also set up shop giving HIV tests.
“A free HIV test and they're in 15 minutes, I got one done today,” said Lewis.
