ALBANY, GA -- More than 150 people spread out across Dougherty County today looking to do some good.

It's was part of the day of caring put on by the United Way.

“We have local agencies create projects. Then we have different businesses in town, the come and create different teams and we put a project with a team and they go out and finish the projects,” said Wendy Friar of the United Way.

Thirteen volunteer teams took on community projects for organizations like the SOWEGA Council on Aging, Habitat for Humanity and Second Harvest of South Georgia.

About 25 girls from the debutante club helped lay dirt for the children’s zoo at Chehaw Park.

“We could be doing thousands of other things, but just the fact that we are out here doing something for our community and taking our free time off, it makes me feel like I’m doing something more important,” said debutante Crystal Gervin.
