ALBANY, GA. -- The Albany Dougherty County Aviation Commission is moving forward with plans to get airport renovation and construction underway.
After accepting a $200,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation during Monday's meeting, officials awarded Manhattan AFB with a the contract to complete construction on airport upgrades. The agreement is worth over $10 million.
Officials say the plans should take around 15 months to complete. However before getting started, they say there are a few things to finish up first.
“We need to sign contracts and allow them to get their submittals in to our construction consultant as well as order steel and materials for the project. So we look forward to getting started around November or December of this year,” said Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Manager Yvette Aehle.
Although Manhattan AFB is based out of Atlanta, airport officials stress that local businesses and materials will be used to complete construction on the airport.
