Sylvester's fire chief says witnesses tell him two young men were scene leaving the scene "rapidly"
WORTH COUNTY, GA -- Update:
Sylvester Fire Department authorities say they are working with the school's insurance company to figure costs.
Meanwhile, they say they are still searching for the two men seen leaving the scene.
FOX 31 was first on the scene of a fire at Holley Elementary School in Worth County.
Sylvester Fire Chief Jody Yarbrough says the fire at the old Worth County elementary school was contained to one room which was heavily damaged.
According to a Sylvester Police Department Patrolman, at 6:09 p.m Sunday evening he saw smoke coming from the former Worth County elementary school and called fire officials. The patrolman says it had just rained, so he thought it was steam but realized it was smoke upon a closer look.
Yarbrough says witnesses tell him they saw two young males leaving the scene "rapidly." He says they will follow up on this information in their investigation.
No one was injured in the fire.
Officials say Holley Elementary School has been closed for two years.
