ALBANY, GA -- UPDATE: Dozens of people found jobs at the Goodwill Career Center's hiring day.

So far the official count is 47 potential new employees, though some are still pending background checks.

Now the Goodwill Center is now recruiting more employers for their next hiring day which will take place in January.

They're also trying to start up a Job Club next month to give the unemployed some job hunting tips.

If you're interested in the job club, you can visit the Goodwill Job Center office on Slappey Boulevard.

Hundreds of people lined up today looking for work at the Goodwill Career Center, many were competing against each other for a select number of jobs.

“I applied for any job they had that's how bad I want to work. Whatever they had I applied,” said John Sanders, who is looking for work.

Luckily, there were plenty of jobs for people to apply for.

“We have 11 employers and each company has at least three positions open,” said Crystal Askew, manager of the Goodwill Career Center.

Companies like Brinks Security and H&R Block. ResCare was looking for people to help out at home nursing care.

“We really look for hurt people. A lot of the training will come with the job, but we need the right fit,” said Jeff Hunt, branch manager of ResCare in Albany.

But the reality for many of the unemployed is that even if there are dozens of jobs, there are hundreds of people competing to fill them.

“It’s so many people that are actually looking for jobs right now,” said Kiera Powell. “I've been hearing it since 2007 and 2008, about the economy and just really experiencing it, it's kind of an eye opener.”

“I think it shows just how tough it is right now, for us to put something together in a matter of three weeks and to have this big of turnout,” said Askew.
