ALBANY, GA -- The NAACP is making a statewide push to save a man on death row set to be executed.

Members of the Dougherty County NAACP took to the courthouse steps Thursday morning asking for clemency for Troy Davis.

He's accused of murdering a police officer in Savannah in 1991.

Supporters say there is just not enough evidence indicating Davis' guilt.

“I would much rather see we get it right, then to move forward with an execution and later find out that an innocent man has died and we still have not gotten the killer off the street,” said Dougherty County NAACP president David Williams.

Davis is scheduled to be executed on September 21. The last chance to stop the execution is during a hearing with the Pardon and Parole Board on Monday.
