ALBANY, GA -- Commemoration of the tenth anniversary of 9/11 may have past, but the commemoration for first responders is continuing.
Palmyra Medical Center held a luncheon for “civil servants” on Monday to as a thank you for their dedication and service. The ten-year anniversary of 9/11 sparked the idea for the meal honoring first responders such as EMS and firefighters.
"We don’t hardly ever get any kind of gratitude for what we do; we get a lot of complaints 'What took you so long to get here?' stuff of that nature, but every once in a while they’ll throw us a cookie and we'll jump on it," says Dougherty County EMS Supervisor Steve Ebel.
Ebel says they are not only thankful to Palmyra for the meal -- which is often difficult for EMS to squeeze into their day because of frequent emergency calls -- but they are also thankful to them for showing the community that first responders are there to help whenever help is needed.
