ALBANY, GA -- The Phoebe Cancer Center will be holding free screenings for prostate cancer this weekend.

Each year, prostate cancer kills hundreds of men. After lung cancer, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men in the United States.

The Phoebe Cancer Center is sponsoring “Prostate Defense Begins at 40,” free prostate screenings being offered Saturday, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at Phoebe.

Prostate Cancer in its early stages usually has no symptoms. Yet early detection yields favorable results in most. A prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test can help to detect prostate cancer and predict the risk of having prostate cancer.

Phoebe phlebotomists and nurses will be on site to draw blood for PSAs to detect prostate cancer early. Phoebe Cancer Center radiation oncologists and urologists from Albany Urology and Allen Urology will be volunteering to help with these tests.

The event will be held at Phoebe Medical Tower I, lower level, in Radiation Oncology. Appointments will be assigned. For more information, call 312-2418.
