ALBANY, GA -- If you have old prescription pills lying around the house, but you don't know what to do with them, Dougherty County has a safe and free way to dispose of your unwanted medication.
Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful is teaming up with local law enforcement for a pill drop on Saturday, September 17th.
It's an event they started last year and they got a pretty good turnout.
“Last year we were excited to collect 301 pounds of medication,” said Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful director Judy Bowles. “We had a prescription drug that had expired in 1965. So apparently people put things in the medicine cabinet and just leave them there. That's really dangerous if you have children or grandchildren around your home.”
They'll also be taking in unused electronic equipment and printing cartridges. Officials say these are all things that can do damage to the environment if they're not disposed properly.
