ALBANY, GA -- After an Albany police officer was shot at last week, many of his fellow officers are considering stepping down.

City Manager James Taylor says at least seven officers have said they may quit.

Taylor says for many of the officers the real risk of the job has hit home.

“I called the chief up and said this can't be true, he said oh yeah. He said anytime a police officer gets shot at you see people resign because it becomes real. Because this is not something on television, this is real stuff,” said Taylor. “And when a police officer shoots someone else he said within two or three years, usually that police officer will get out of police work.”

Taylor was speaking to the rotary club Tuesday. He also spoke about economic development in the city.
