AMERICUS, GA -- First Update
Phoebe Sumter CEO Keith Petersen released the following statement regarding the tragic loss of Sean Scott:

On behalf of Phoebe Sumter and the entire Phoebe family, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and co-workers of the late Sean Scott, who tragically lost his life at our job site this morning."

His loss will touch not only all of us here at Phoebe but the entire community, and we all mourn his passing.  We know his coworkers are having a tough time as well, and we will have to lean on each other to get through this trying time.

We are currently investigating the causes of this tragic accident and I can assure you that we will take all and any appropriate measures to make sure that the worksite is as safe as possible.  With that being said, the construction side has been temporarily shut down until a full investigation is done.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and please say a prayer for Mr. Scott's family and friends as they go through this tough time.

FOX31 News has learned that an electrician has died in an accident at the Phoebe Sumter construction site.

Officials with at the Sumter County Sheriff’s office confirmed that the incident happened at about 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

A friend of the victim contacted FOX31 and identified the victim as 21-year-old Sean Scott. He was a graduate of Lee County High School.

Few details were available about how the accident happened. Officials at Phoebe Sumter say construction on the hospital has been shut down indefinitly while the accident is investigated.
