'Sheldon' the gopher toroise at Chehaw Park is a threatened species

ALBANY, GA -- In today's Facebook story of the day you wanted to know what kind of endangered species we have around southwest Georgia.
And we've got quite a few!
The Indiana bat and the gray bat are on the list as well as the gopher tortoise, the wood stork and indigo snake.
“The flatwood salamander, bald eagle, the gopher tortoise, they're actually considered threatened, which is a step below endangered but is still an animal we've got to be careful with in terms of protecting,” said Kevin Hills, zoo director at Chehaw Park.
The flatwood salamander and other water creatures are important species because when they disappear, it could mean our water system is deteriorating.
