ALBANY, GA -- The Dougherty County School System is getting ready to place an order for brand new iPads for some of their schools.

The school board approved the purchase for seven classroom sets of iPads for their title one schools. Those are schools deemed to be the most economically disadvantaged.

The iPads will come with software for math instruction.

“The technology will be good because you are providing resources that perhaps those economically disadvantaged children, may not be able to afford within their own family or home,” said Betty Graper, Director of Federal Programs for the Dougherty County School System.

The school system just completed a smaller test program using iPads in an afterschool setting.

Officials say the program showed measurable gains in student performance.
