Albany Gang Unit looks for suspects in Saturday shooting

Updated with charges; The Gang Unit is investigating a shooting that happened mid-day Saturday.

ALBANY, GA -- According to the Albany Police Department, the shooting has been determined to be an accident.

Investigators say that Justin Harvey and Dontavious Laster were at a home located in the 100 block of Swaggott Road when Harvey handed a loaded handgun to Laster and the gun went off striking Harvey in the pelvic area. Laster drove Harvey to the hospital after the shooting but later returned.

 Authorities say both men were questioned and led to warrants being issued. Harvey has been charged with gang participation, reckless conduct, possession of a handgun by someone underage, and giving a false statement. Laster was being charged with reckless conduct. Laster was transported to the Dougherty County Jail Saturday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. Harvey remains at Phoebe Hospital. Additional charges are pending in this case.

The Gang Unit is investigating a shooting that happened mid-day Saturday.

The victim is a 17-year-old black male.   

He told police that as he was walking around Tremont Avenue and Joshua Street, a white four-door car pulled up to him.

He said there were three black males inside the car and one sitting in the back seat rolled down his window and fired a shotgun, hitting the victim in the right side of his hip.  

The victim was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
