The Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards has confirmed that Jerome Walden has passed away.

Walden was violently attacked a few weeks ago.  Three men including Tracy Smith and Demarcus Lewis chased Walden into an alley and beat him with a piece of wood with nails in it.  Walden had serious injuries including swollen eyes, a punctured lung, and a serious head injury.

Walden was transferred from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to Hospice Care where he passed away Friday July 29, 2011 at 2:35 p.m.

Edwards says Lewis and Smith will have their charges upgraded from aggravated assault and battery to murder.

Officials are still looking for the third man who participated in the deadly beating.  If you have any information on his location you’re asked to call the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100.
