ALBANY, GA -- Special Olympics athletes grabbed their bowling balls and shoes and hit the lanes Friday. The AMF Bowl-a-Rama hosted the Strikers Bowling Tournament for the Georgia Special Olympics.

Prizes were medals and ribbons, but organizers say they event was all about promoting self esteem for the athletes, and that makes everyone a winner.

“It's just a big support to help them grow as a person, help them mature and it's just a great opportunity to have them come out and compete and socialize. All around its great for them,” said Charles White, Regional Director in Southwest Georgia for the Special Olympics.

Dozens of people took part in the tournament, with some teams coming from as far away as Newnan and Columbus.
