There is no word on if the rabid fox near Darton College has been trapped, but local health officials say it could have already died. Southwest Health District officials says if the fox was has severe as it probably was it could already be dead from the rabies.

They say they have been treating the three bite victims for rabies, and have not seen any new cases.

Officials with the Darton Police Department say Becks Wildlife Services was hired to trap the fox. They say the one on campus was not trapped but did hear about a rabid fox being trapped near Gillionville and Magnolia on Friday night.

A walking trail at Darton College is closed until Monday after a rabid fox near the college attacked three people.

Evette Mills is recovering after being attacked by the animal along the trail at 9 p.m. on Thursday. Darton police say Mills was walking along a curve of the trail near the intramural field when the fox ran up and bit her leg; police say it then jumped up to bite her wrist. Mills was rescued by the college’s football team who used footballs and helmets to beat the animal off her.

Authorities say a woman and a child were also attacked at a nearby apartment complex.

Officials with the Darton Police Department say Becks Wildlife Services was hired to trap the fox. They say he was out late Friday night but did not catch the fox on campus, but DPD officials say they did hear about a fox being trapped near Gillionville and Magnolia Friday night.
