ALBANY, GA --

In a meeting Friday morning, Municipal Court Judge Willie Weaver requested that the Albany City Commission grant him a leave of absence up to 90 days.

Commissioners voted 6-1 to grant the leave with the lone "no" vote coming from Ward 6 Commissioner Tommie Postell. Weaver works part-time and is appointed by the city commission as the municipal court judge. The commission decided to continue his pay for the 90 days of absence. Mayor Willie Adams signed the order for his absence with a start date of May 31st, 2011.

“We are not pursuing any innocence nor guilt, but there comes a time when we have to make sure that our municipal court is run smoothly and without any questions as to what decisions have been rendered,” said Mayor Willie Adams.

Weaver was arrested and charged with aggravated assault stemming from an incident involving his wife, Vester Weaver. According to a police report, that incident happened on May 21st, 2011.
