ALBANY, GA -- Albany's Advocacy Resource Center had their big Mexican fiesta fundraiser Thursday night. But hours later, their thrift store was hit by theives.

“We got broken into just before 2 a.m. last night,” said manager Matthew Barnes.

The mission of the Albany's Advocacy Resource Center is to help those in need.

“It is to help those that need help and to help them become more self-sufficient if that is possible,” said Operations Director Joyce Cresswell.

The store was hit by at least one smash and grab robber for the second time in less than a year.

The thieves had taken a rock and put it through the window of their front door. They made off with about $60 dollars, a relatively small about of cash, but the organization was hurt the most by the money it took to get their door repaired.

“It's $200 to $400 every time it happens,” said Cresswell. “Obviously it gets expensive for us because we have to have the doors repaired, but we're not going to stop, we're going to continue to help people.”

Albany Police continue to investigate the crime, although they have not confirmed a dollar amount that was taken from the store. Right now the case is being labeled as a criminal trespass.

Police did stop a man near the scene of the crime with a couple of items he could not account for. It is unclear if those items came from the ARC. That man was cited on a separate charge and released.
