Credits are generated by destroying greenhouse gases

DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -- There is monetary incentive for Dougherty County going green!

The county landfill generates credits by destroying greenhouse gases.

They've tentatively voted to enter into a contract with a company called Blue Source LLC who will market and sell those credits.

The expected revenue is projected at between $90,000 and $96,000.

80% of that will go to the county's enterprise fund.

“We were prepared in 2008 to do this but unfortunately the market collapsed, so now we have the demand,” said Assistant County Administrator Mike McCoy.

The marine base will have the rights to those credits pretty soon--when their landfill gas-to-energy project is up and running.

That's expected to happen in about three months.
