Albany, Do. Co., and Ga. Dept. of Revenue teaming up together

ALBANY, GA. -- It’s tax time and for the first time ever, the City of Albany and Dougherty County are partnering with the State Department of Revenue to cross check their books.

The Finance Department recently mailed out orange flyers with vital information on it to make it easier for businesses to renew occupational tax certificate’s online.

The deadline to pay occupational taxes is March 15, 2011, and if you don’t pay the fine could be higher than what the license would normally cost.  There are three ways to pay – in person, by mail with a check, or online with a credit card.   Nearly all of the information you will need is printed on the orange flyer and the website will calculate how much you owe based off of your company’s information.

The City of Albany, Dougherty County, and the Georgia Department of Revenue will be cross-checking each other to make sure people are paying taxes.

Dougherty County Commissioner Gloria Gaines says the move to work with the state department could mean more money for local government.  “The reason we need to know the information is whether or not we can expect to see additional revenue resulting from this effort.  If this is a revenue enhancement activity then we need to be able to discern to what degree it really is improving our bottom line” says Gaines.
